A large portion of SDOF's funding comes from annual fundraisers, which help support our programs while providing a platform to spread our message of ocean stewardship.Golf FORE Kids
This yearly miniature golf tournament is held at Boomers at the beginning of each year. Participants of all ages register to play 18 holes of miniature golf to compete for prizes awarded to the lowest scorers. Other games and activities include Longest Marshmallow Drive, raffle prizes, live music and more!Funds from this event allow SDOF to educate hundreds of youth **for free** through the Ocean in Motion marine science program. This program culminates live animal laboratories and snorkeling in Mission Bay. It is a great opportunity for the youth to see animals in their natural habitats while building self confidence through the snorkeling experience.

White Seabass Derby
The White Seabass Derby is held during the month of June and is an opportunity for anglers and freedivers to compete for cash prizes while helping scientists at Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute collect valuable information on the White Seabass species. Open to private boaters, kayakers and free divers, the Derby offers cash and prizes for the heaviest White Seabass weighed.The $30 registration fee is tax-deductible. All proceeds benefit SDOF's White Seabass Restoration Project.

Dive-A-Thon
The Dive-a-Thon is SDOF's largest fundraiser of the year, with the goal to "get divers diving" - while spreading our message of ocean stewardship. Similar to a walk-a-thon, divers seek financial pledges from friends and family to support their diving goal during the month of August. Some divers choose to set fundraising goals while others compete to log the most minutes underwater. ANY diver in the USA can register for this event, and registered divers can get credit for dives completed ANYWHERE in the world during August.Prizes are awarded based on points: Each $1 raised earns you 2 points. Each 1 minute logged earns you 1 point. Previous prizes have included a DUI dry suit, 2 for 1 dive trip to FIJI, dive computers, BCDs, dive gear, restaurant gift certificates and tickets to local attractions.
The tax-deductible registration fee is $25 and includes a FREE event t-shirt. Registration opens in June.

Oceans Benefit Dinner
The Oceans Benefit is SDOF's annual gala for community members to join us to reflect on SDOF's accomplishments in the last year, look forward to the next and present the Roger Revelle Award to a deserving recipient.Each year, SDOF seeks to host this event at a unique location, with attractions and music, a cocktail hour and a sumptuous dinner at a reasonable price. The evening is filled with entertainments of all sorts and is always fun and enjoyable, never "stuffy" or dull!
SDOF's most prestigious honor, the Roger Revelle Award, is awarded annually to a San Diegan in science, academia, industry, military, recreation or philanthropy who demonstrates personal initiative in encouraging stewardship of the world's precious ocean resources. The award is named for the late Dr. Revelle, the fifth director of Scripps Institution of Oceanography, the driving force in creating the University of California, San Diego, and the first Director of the Center for Population Studies at Harvard.
